Welcome to the website of the Department of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology at Ulm University Hospital
The Department of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology is the largest radiotherapy facility in the Ulm-Lake Constance region. Every year, around 1,600 patients receive radiotherapy treatment at the Ulm University Hospital at the Ulm and Ehingen sites. The majority of patients can be treated on an outpatient basis. For the treatment of inpatients, the Department of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology has the M2d ward of the Ulm University Hospital with 20 treatment beds at its disposal.
Specialists from all areas of radiotherapy care for you in our clinic, with a particular focus on the treatment of urogenital tumours (prostate and bladder cancer), head and neck tumours, malignant tumours in children and gynaecological cancers (breast cancer and tumours of the female pelvis). Every year, around 100 patients with brain metastases, lung tumours, prostate cancer and bone metastases are radiosurgically or stereotactically irradiated. These are so-called high-precision therapies, which require an accuracy of 1 mm. For example, the so-called "Hyper Arc Therapy" or the "Ray Pilot" technology for prostate carcinoma is available for this purpose.
The Department of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology is integrated into the university's "Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm", which is funded by German Cancer Aid. This ensures close, interdisciplinary co-operation with the specialist departments of Ulm University Hospital and Ulm Armed Forces Hospital for all our patients.
The Clinic for Radiotherapy and Radiooncology is equipped with the latest technical radiotherapy equipment. These enable high-precision irradiation of even the smallest tumours in the human body. A new high-precision linear accelerator was put into operation in June 2022. This is also associated with a second treatment centre for stereotactic and radiosurgical high-precision therapies ("Hyper Arc"). The greater Ulm region is supplied by the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology as a unique selling point with so-called brachytherapy, the local irradiation of gynaecological tumours in particular. The brachytherapy unit was completely renovated in December 2021.
Our clinic offers the entire university range of radiooncology services. If you have any questions about your treatment, please do not hesitate to contact me personally.
