M2D, the ward of the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology
In most cases, radiotherapy is carried out on an outpatient basis. If the patient's state of health or the necessary framework conditions of the therapy require more intensive care, inpatient admission to the M2d ward of the Radiotherapy Clinic is possible.
The ward is jointly integrated into a unit with the Clinic for Internal Medicine in the Medical Clinic on the Oberer Eselsberg and utilises this shared infrastructure. The recently modernised M2D ward has state-of-the-art room and organisational structures.
The nursing team on the radio-oncological therapy ward consists of highly qualified nursing staff, several of whom have completed specialist oncological training with particular experience. As part of continuous further training, new nurses are constantly being trained as oncological specialist nurses.
Nursing care on the ward is aimed in particular at promoting and maintaining the independence of patients being treated for malignant diseases. The patients are counselled, instructed and accompanied by the nursing staff.
On the medical side, two doctors, a senior physician and the medical director are available to provide medical care. This naturally takes place in very close co-operation with the nursing team.
Other specialised services and employees of the hospital such as social workers, bridge nursing, psycho-oncologists and members of the hospital's pastoral care team work closely together. This results in optimal care for patients during their entire hospital stay. In particular, the social services and bridge nursing services ensure that the transfer of some seriously ill patients to neighbouring hospitals, nursing homes or follow-up treatment is safe and uncomplicated.
As the clinic is also a training centre, young nurses are trained by the nursing team. They are integrated into the nursing team during their practical training. In addition, numerous trainees are employed. Service staff are responsible, for example, for transporting patients to the radiotherapy equipment or for ordering meals. Housekeeping tasks are carried out by care assistants, while hospital assistants are responsible for ordering and storing medication. As a patient, you can see that a large team works closely together to ensure that your stay in hospital runs smoothly and that the greatest possible contribution can be made to your recovery.
In addition, every patient has the opportunity to contact the hospital management directly with criticism, suggestions and praise using the "Opinion Management" system. You can also contact the nursing team directly using the relevant forms, which can be submitted anonymously or labelled with your name. We would like to encourage you to make active use of this very efficient system.
