Coronary heart disease is the most common cause of death in Germany. The main problem is an unrecognised gradual narrowing of the coronary arteries. Today, complete heart diagnostics can be carried out using modern radiological procedures. This essentially requires two examinations: images of the coronary arteries can be taken using multi-line computed tomography (MD-CT) (CT coronary angiography). This means that any changes (narrowing) in the coronary arteries can be visualised directly.

In addition, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI ) can be used to visualise the blood flow to the heart muscle. In this way, if the vessels are narrowed, their functional significance for the blood flow to the heart muscle can be analysed. Infarction or scarring of the heart muscle can also be reliably detected. This makes cardiac MR the best method currently available for imaging the function and performance of the heart.

Both examinations together enable comprehensive cardiac diagnostics that can clarify all aspects of coronary heart disease.
