Dear doctors with an interest in paediatrics,
Further training to become a specialist in paediatrics and adolescent medicine is a professional and personal challenge. It requires special empathy, passion and flexibility from you, as well as great commitment and the willingness to acquire extensive knowledge in various specialisations. The University Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine offers you the best conditions to carry out your training comprehensively and for the benefit of the patients.
The University Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine also offers you a comprehensive range of further training opportunities in the subspecialties of paediatrics. Our aim is to train paediatricians who can competently represent this specialist field and meet the growing medical and economic demands.
Prof. Dr M. Erlacher, Medical Director
Prof. Dr M. Hönig, Senior Consultant

You will also have the opportunity to get to know various specialist areas such as paediatric gastroenterology and paediatric nephrology as well as paediatric endocrinology and diabetology. Our clinic also has a social paediatric centre with paediatric neurology and a sonography department.

As a doctor at our clinic, you will work in a team of nursing staff, assistants, specialists and senior physicians. You will also work together with various staff from other areas, e.g. physiotherapy, art therapy and speech therapy. Our aim is for you to be able to work confidently independently, but also to be able to work out difficult diagnoses as part of a team, with a consultant or senior physician at your side as a contact person. Paediatrics requires particular skill in communicating with paediatric patients and their relatives. For them, you are not only a doctor, but also support the parents and relatives of the young patients with sufficient patience and empathy.
The Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine works on an interdisciplinary basis with the various facilities at Ulm University Hospital. There is close cooperation with paediatric surgery, paediatric neurosurgery and paediatric urology with joint consultation hours as well as the radiology department and cooperation with other clinics at the University Hospital.
As a doctor at a university institution, you will be directly involved in research and teaching alongside your clinical work. It is important to us to use scientific work and clinical studies to advance the recognition of diseases and the possibilities of treatment for our patients. In addition to your further training as a specialist, we offer you the opportunity to carry out your own research and will support you if you would like to take this opportunity.
