Explanation / UKiNoKu procedure
The aim of our course is to impart practical knowledge and realistic recommendations for action in order to be able to react appropriately to selected, serious paediatric emergency situations.
Under the leadership of the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Ulm University Hospital, we have developed a practical course concept that takes into account the special needs of employees.
With our course, we have implemented an interdisciplinary concept that includes all clinics that are involved in the care of paediatric patient groups to a relevant extent.
To ensure consistently high quality standards, we have set out reproducible procedures, standardised case examples and detailed instructions on how to carry them out in writing. Regular training of the relevant medical and nursing staff is also intended to ensure this.
For this purpose, a focus was placed on the essential content in order to maintain the highest possible level of motivation among lecturers and participants and to contribute significantly to the success of this course. The content taught by tutors from the participating clinics should reflect the current state of knowledge and the internal procedures of the participating clinics.
In two rounds on two consecutive days, each lasting 3.5 hours and 4 hours respectively, the participants are divided into four mixed groups (mixed in terms of professional classification and clinics), each with five participants. The individual groups rotate through four different wards (Cardiology Team, Airway Team, General Paediatrics Team, Paediatric/KJP/KCH Team) and two scenario workstations.
The small group size enables the tutors to respond individually to each participant and provide assistance if necessary. Each group member can and must actively participate in the course and questions can be answered directly.
Doctors and nurses, beginners and experienced colleagues support each other during the UKiNoKu and learn to work together in an emergency or to consolidate what they have already learnt and apply it in the right situation.
