Working group on health services research in child and adolescent psychiatry

Management

The working group "Care research in child and adolescent psychiatry" deals with social psychiatric and care issues in child and adolescent psychiatry. One focus is on the care of neglected, abused and sexually abused children and adolescents.

The vulnerability of children and adolescents to mental disorders is characterised by genetic factors, but also by psychosocial factors in particular. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) are the strongest risk factors for complex psychopathology with externalising and internalising symptoms and long-term impairments in children and adolescents. Typical risk groups are children in institutions, foster children and children of mentally ill parents. Certain disorders such as social behaviour disorders, but also affective disorders, show an increasingly severe degree of severity in the course of the disease, but also the risk of various comorbid disorders. The working group deals with the epidemiology of experiences with ACE, the course of psychopathology under developmental aspects, as well as therapy options within the framework of clinical studies. Under the aspect of care research, care data is analysed and new care models are tested.

Further topics of the working group are ethical and legal framework conditions for improving participation, stigma, inclusion etc. as well as improvements in care in an international dimension.

These reports usually conclude with recommendations for policy action and research.
