Mitral valve surgery

  • Reconstructive procedures: depending on the underlying valve disease, the cause of the valve defect and the extent of the valve destruction, a valve-preserving, reconstructive surgical technique is always preferred, which is also possible in over 70 % of all procedures. This procedure can also be performed using a minimally invasive technique via a small, lateral opening in the right side of the chest, usually through an incision around the nipple.
  • Mechanical or biological valve replacement: if a valve replacement is necessary, all mechanical and biological prostheses available today are available.
  • Minimally invasive valve replacement: in the case of isolated surgery on the mitral and/or tricuspid valve, this can generally be performed using minimally invasive techniques.
