Treatment spectrum/focal points:

In addition to the broad spectrum of paediatric infectious diseases, general paediatrics primarily provides interdisciplinary care for gastroenterological, nephrological, endocrinological, neurological, cardiological, metabolic, haemostasiological and pneumological diseases and also clarifies psychosomatic or psychiatric clinical pictures in cooperation with child and adolescent psychiatry. This also includes patients with rare diseases.

Special diagnostic procedures:

In addition to modern imaging procedures (sonography and radiology with CT and MRI), all (laboratory) diagnostic and therapeutic options of the university hospital are available. A dialysis unit has been set up on ward 2 for paediatric nephrology. Complex cases are regularly discussed in interdisciplinary boards with colleagues from radiology.

Emergency room:

The University Children's Hospital is authorised as a university outpatient clinic (§117 SGBV). It does not participate in specialist care. The paediatric emergency service provides outpatient specialist care and outpatient emergency care 24 hours a day.
All children's illnesses are therefore initially treated by the paediatricians or family doctors in private practice, who are also available in the evenings.

See link"Emergency care consultation hours"

The paediatric clinic's outpatient department is available around the clock for inpatient admissions and emergencies.

Co-operations:

The medical and nursing team is professionally supported by physiotherapists, nutritionists, diabetes consultants, child psychologists, counsellors and educators to ensure the best possible care for sick children. There is also excellent cooperation with the departments of paediatric surgery, ear, nose and throat medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, paediatric urology, gynaecology and paediatric neurosurgery.
