Patients with tumours of the central nervous system are treated at the Neurooncology Centre. These are primarily tumours in the brain, meninges or head, but also in the spine or nerves or metastases of other tumours that affect the brain or spine. Tumour conferences are held weekly with representatives from all departments involved in the treatment of tumours of the central nervous system. All patients with tumours of the central nervous system are presented at the neuro-oncological tumour conference, both at the time of initial diagnosis and regularly during the course of treatment, in order to ensure the best possible therapy through interdisciplinary exchange.
The Neurooncology Centre, which is certified by the German Cancer Society and has sites at Günzburg District Hospital and Ulm University Hospital, is the only one of its kind in Germany that spans several federal states. Patients with neuro-oncological tumours are treated in close cooperation with the Department of Internal Medicine III (haematology and oncology), the Department of Neurosurgery at Günzburg District Hospital and the Department of Neurology at Ulm University Hospital at Ulm Rehabilitation Hospital.
The Neurooncology Centre is embedded in the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm (CCCU) and has been certified in accordance with the requirements of the German Cancer Society since 2017.
