The number of adult patients with congenital heart defects is increasing due to constantly improving care and recognition of congenital heart defects at an early age. The age of adults with congenital heart defects has risen sharply in recent decades. As a result, these patients, who have traditionally been cared for by paediatric cardiology colleagues, increasingly require advice and treatment for diseases from "adult cardiology". The EMAH consultation is based on this foundation. A cooperation between paediatric cardiologists and "adult cardiologists".

Our range of services:
- Advice and support for patients with congenital heart disease
- Planning and carrying out cardiac diagnostics
- Planning and advice on surgical treatment in cooperation with the paediatric surgery department at LMU Munich
- Treatment of long-term complications after paediatric surgery

Ulm University Hospital has been certified as a supra-regional centre for adults with congenital heart defects (EMAH) by the German Society of Cardiology, the German Society of Paediatric Cardiology and the German Society of Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery.

Please bring a valid referral slip from your doctor in private practice and all relevant previous findings (doctor's letters, ECGs, ultrasound examinations, laboratory findings) with you to the agreed appointment.

It is particularly important for us to obtain a detailed medical history. In a discussion with the relevant team of doctors (cardiologist and paediatric cardiologist) in the EMAH outpatient clinic, you can describe your symptoms and the previous findings you have brought with you will be analysed.
If the discussion and the available examination results indicate the need for drug therapy or invasive therapy, we will provide you with comprehensive information about these therapies. Surgical interventions will be discussed and planned in the interdisciplinary meeting with the LMU Munich.

In addition to the diagnosis, we offer further examination methods in our outpatient clinic:
- Echocardiography (transthoracic, transoesophageal)
- Resting ECG, exercise ECG
- Pulmonary function
- Spiroergometry
- Tilt table examinations
- Laboratory diagnostics including genetic analyses (in cooperation with human health) - Defibrillators or pacemakersLaboratory diagnostics including genetic analyses (in cooperation with Human Genetics)
- Defibrillator or pacemaker scan
