KJP supplementary qualification

Formal requirements

Licensed psychological psychotherapists (PP) or advanced training participants in PP can acquire a supplementary qualification (billing extension) in the field of child and adolescent psychotherapy (KJP) as part of the agreement on the use of psychotherapy in statutory health care (psychotherapy agreements) in accordance with Section 6 (4) on the professional qualification of psychological psychotherapists.

The AZVT requires that trainees in PP have completed Practical Activity No. 1 and the intermediate examination at the start of the supplementary qualification.

Training modules for KJP supplementary qualification

In order to acquire the billing extension, certificates must be submitted within the framework of the psychotherapy agreement (Section 6 (4)), which show, among other things, that in-depth knowledge and experience in developmental psychology and learning psychology, including special neuroscience and psychodiagnostics in children and adolescents, has been provided with

  • at least 200 hours of theory
  • At least 5 completed cases in behavioural therapy with at least 180 hours of treatment with children and adolescents

  • Supervision of the treatment cases after every third to fourth hour of treatment by a supervisor recognised for KJP by a KJP training centre.

The corresponding additional qualification must be acquired at and via recognised training centres for child and adolescent psychotherapy in accordance with Section 6 of the Psychotherapists Act.

  • Theory

The total of 200 hours of theory are usually held as weekend events at the AZVT. These seminars take place on Fridays from 4.00 - 8.00 pm and Saturdays from 8.30 - 6.15 pm (15 teaching units of 45 minutes each). The choice of courses is made independently via the AZVT homepage. Attendance at the seminars is documented in a training logbook.

  • Practical training

As part of the practical training, treatment sessions are carried out in the AZVT outpatient clinic in parallel to the theoretical training and are supervised by a supervisor recognised by the AZVT in accordance with the specifications. It is only possible to start practical training after attending the seminar "Introduction to writing case concepts/reports to the assessor".

At the beginning of the practical training, there is a detailed introduction to the organisation of outpatient clinics and billing of the therapy hours carried out in the AZVT training outpatient clinic.

Costs and fees for the supplementary qualification

For the supplementary training to become a child and adolescent psychotherapist at the AZVT Ulm, participants are generally charged a monthly training fee.

These fees are used to finance all teaching events including teaching materials, lecturer fees, administration and organisation costs and individual pre- and post-registration meetings.

There are also costs for supervision. Billing for supervision is regulated by mutual agreement between the supervisor and the training candidates within the fee framework specified by the AZVT.

The time and location framework for supervision is also regulated by mutual agreement between the supervisor and the training participant.

The training therapies within the AZVT outpatient clinic are financed by invoicing the individual services. After deduction of administrative costs, participants in the supplementary qualification receive performance-related remuneration for the services they provide (share of the proceeds for psychotherapeutic treatments). This makes it possible to organise the overall costs of the supplementary qualification in a cost-effective manner.

More detailed regulations on remuneration during practical training can be found in the AZVT supplementary qualification fee schedule.
