The thoracic and vascular surgery section focuses on the surgical treatment of diseases of the lungs, pleura and mediastinum, i.e. the chest cavity between the two lungs (mediastinum), as well as diseases of the arterial and venous vascular tract.
In the field of thoracic surgery, the treatment of malignant tumours of the lung is an essential component. An individual treatment strategy is determined in interdisciplinary tumour boards under the umbrella of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm (CCCU) in collaboration with oncology, radiotherapy, pathology and pneumology. With regard to surgical procedures, we favour minimally invasive approaches (video-assisted and robotically assisted thoracic surgery) in order to minimise the stress for our patients.
In the field of vascular surgery, there is a particular focus on the treatment of aortic aneurysms - thoracic and abdominal - and peripheral arterial occlusive disease. Wherever possible, minimally invasive, endovascular procedures are used to minimise the strain on patients and ensure a quick recovery.
