Personalised medicine aims to find customised treatment strategies, i.e. to use the optimal therapy for a specific disease in a patient at the right time. Innovative forms of diagnosis and therapy are used, including molecular genetic, pathological and imaging procedures.
At Ulm University Hospital, the Centre for Personalised Medicine (ZPM) complements the cutting-edge oncological medicine at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm (CCCU), the integrative tumour centre of the University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine.

The ZPM works on an interdisciplinary basis, even beyond Ulm University Hospital. This is because there are a total of four ZPM sites in Baden-Württemberg: in addition to Ulm University Hospital, the university hospitals in Heidelberg, Freiburg and Tübingen. You can find out more about the four locations on the ZPM network website.
Representatives of the four university hospitals develop joint structures and procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of advanced oncological diseases. The focus is on patients with advanced tumours for whom no further established therapies are available or patients with rare tumours. Therefore, extended diagnostics, e.g. sequencing of parts of the tumour genome, is useful for them in order to find possible further therapy options.
The ZPM network is now also opening up to patients with chronic inflammatory diseases. The ZPM Ulm offers patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis/spondyloarthritis an interdisciplinary counselling service. By pooling the expertise and experience of various specialist experts, the aim is to find the best possible treatment option to successfully control the debilitating symptoms in the long term.
