The University Outpatient Clinic of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy focuses on research, teaching, training and further education as well as the diagnosis and referral of adult patients with mental or psychosomatic disorders requiring treatment, which can be treated or supported with psychotherapeutic methods. These include depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders (such as chronic pain disorders), trauma-related disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders and mental disorders associated with physical illnesses.
For patients with cancer and their relatives, we offer special counselling as part of the psychosocial cancer counselling centre in Ulm. The primary type of disorder is clarified in detail and a specific therapy recommendation (e.g. outpatient, inpatient, day clinic) is given.
Depending on the indication, referrals are mainly made to psychotherapists in private practice, to our clinic (inpatient or day-care) or to psychosomatic clinics, particularly in the surrounding area.

Team
Our profile
The Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy offers psychosomatic consultations in the workplace as a speciality. Against the background of increasing sick leave due to mental disorders, but also mental stress in the workplace, psychosomatic consultations have been set up as low-threshold counselling and short-term therapy services. To this end, co-operation agreements have been concluded with various companies, e.g. from the metalworking industry, public administration and clinical and social institutions.
The counselling hours are partly financed directly by the companies and partly by company health insurance funds.
Access to the consultation hours is organised in different ways, e.g. via the company doctor or staff council, and in some cases company employees can also contact the outpatient clinic directly.
The psychosomatic consultations are organised by doctors or psychologists from the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine.

Patients with chronic pain syndromes and/or functional neurological disorders receive outpatient care in this centre.
As part of the university outpatient clinic of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Ulm University Hospital, a differentiated integrated psychosomatic diagnosis is carried out - in particular taking into account the examinations already carried out. On this basis, a possible "as well as" disease model is discussed with the patient and recommendations for further psychosomatic-psychotherapeutic treatment are derived. This may include outpatient guideline psychotherapy (with registered doctors) and/or day-clinic or inpatient treatment at the Clinic for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Ulm University Hospital. If necessary, additional diagnostics are recommended.
It is desirable that patients with a shorter course of illness or promptly after diagnosis of a chronic pain syndrome or functional neurological disorder are presented.
