Welcome to the website of the Institute of Pathology at Ulm University Hospital.
On the following pages we would like to give you an insight into the work of the Department of Pathology at Ulm University Hospital, which is basically divided into the three subject areas of patient care, research and teaching which you can also access via the menu on the right-hand side.
As a cross-sectional discipline, pathology makes an essential contribution to indirect patient care by providing pathoanatomical, histological and cytological diagnoses, which play a key role in the course of treatment for many of the patients admitted and treated at Ulm University Hospital.
The diagnostic spectrum is constantly updated and expanded and includes the established methods of immunomorphology, molecular diagnostics as well as classical and molecular cytogenetic tumour diagnostics.
The function of a national reference centre for lymph node and lymphoma diagnostics is linked to the head of the department. The Department of Pathology is involved in the BMBF-funded national competence network "Malignant Lymphomas", which aims to diagnose as many lymphoma patients as possible according to standardised criteria, to include them in prospective therapy optimisation studies and to monitor them in follow-up.
