Congenital malformations in the maxillofacial region, so-called craniofacial malformations, usually also affect the position of the teeth. Treatment is carried out according to a customised interdisciplinary treatment plan. This means that the treatment plan is drawn up and the treatment is carried out in close cooperation and consultation between us orthodontists and the oral and maxillofacial surgeons in charge. The family dentist and, if necessary, other specialist disciplines are also involved in the planning and treatment.

The treatment tasks often include correcting the width of the upper jaw, gap management for permanent teeth that are not in place, adjusting displaced or impacted teeth and the interdisciplinary implementation of combined orthodontic and maxillofacial surgical jaw position corrections.

Congenital malformations include, among others

  • Craniosynostosis with premature ossification of the cranial sutures: Apert and Crouzon syndrome
  • Gill arch syndromes: Goldenhar syndrome and hemifacial microsomia
  • Dysostosis cleidocranialis
  • Ectodermal dysplasias
