At least one permanent tooth is missing in around 5% of the population. The second small molars in the lower jaw and the lateral incisors in the upper jaw are most frequently affected.

Possible treatment options for missing teeth are orthodontic gap closure, gap restoration with dentures (e.g. an implant crown), long-term preservation of the corresponding primary tooth or, in individual cases, even tooth transplantation.

The basic advantages of orthodontic gap closure are that definitive treatment can be carried out at a young age and natural teeth still have a better long-term prognosis than dental implants or prosthetic dentures. However, if certain conditions are met, it may also make sense to treat gaps with dentures, although the definitive treatment can then only be carried out in adulthood.

Optimum treatment of missing teeth involves careful interdisciplinary planning in close consultation between your dentist and us orthodontists. This is the only way to achieve the optimum treatment for each individual case.

Our orthodontic clinic has special expertise in the orthodontic treatment of patients with missing teeth, which has also been documented in specialist publications.
