The individual expressiveness and facial expressions of a face are created by the complex interaction of these anatomical structures with a multitude of nerves and muscles. It is therefore not surprising that even the smallest changes can affect appearance and expressiveness.
Illnesses, injuries or even ageing processes often lead to our environment reacting negatively to them. To round off the spectrum, oral and maxillofacial surgeons also perform aesthetic procedures. This includes the removal of annoying warts or moles as well as eyebrow lifting. Precise knowledge of the complicated anatomy of the face as well as knowledge of the connections between anatomy and function are an important prerequisite for all procedures.
The surgeons in the department hold the additional qualification "Plastic Surgery". These qualifications make the maxillofacial surgeon a specialist for the face.
