PJ curriculum for all PJ students
For over 10 years, PJ training in the Department of Neurology has been significantly expanded and intensified. There is a fixed rotation plan that is individually designed for each student and integrates all the possibilities of neurology as treated in our university clinic into a student training programme. This includes the following points in detail:
- Fixed rotation for each individual PJ student (only one at a time) to our stroke unit/intermediate care ward with 27 monitored beds, which enables students to become familiar with the broad spectrum of acute stroke care, as well as the entire spectrum of severe neurological diseases that require intensified treatment under the conditions of a monitoring ward. A further rotation is offered for the epileptological section for pre-surgical epilepsy diagnostics, so that additional insights are also possible in this area. There is also a fixed rotation to the intensive care unit.
- At the end of the PJ tertial, there is a daily rotation to our university outpatient clinic (only one student at a time) to get to know individual neurological disease groups in the special consultation hours as part of outpatient clinical care and the clinical study centre.
This includes in detail -Outpatient clinic for motor neurone diseases
Outpatient clinic for neuromuscular diseases
- Outpatient clinic for
movement
disorders
-Outpatient clinic for inflammatory CNS diseases
-
Outpatient clinic for
epilepsyOutpatient clinic for epilepsy
- Memory outpatient clinic (outpatient clinic for dementia
) - Fixed rotation to the individual functional areas in order to familiarise yourself with the methods of neurological diagnostics using equipment (only one student at a time)
This includes the following functional areas:
- Electrophysiology
- EEG
- Ultrasound of the vessels supplying the brain (Doppler)
- Cerebrospinal fluid laboratory
- Muscle laboratory
- MRI diagnosis
- As part of the PJ training, case seminars are also held regularly by senior physicians in the department, in which the neurological-clinical findings and the path "from syndrome to diagnosis" are discussed in a collegial dialogue using a specific individual case of a patient on the ward (which is selected according to the wishes of the PJ students). These are therefore not theoretical frontal events, but training events on and with the patient.
- At the end of each PJ tertial, a neurological mock examination is held, in which the senior consultant lecturer, who also conducts state examinations herself, runs through the entire course of an oral state examination from start to finish in order to demonstrate the relevant procedures and also to pass on key points and experience for the examination.
We hope that this intensive training programme in neurology will give you an understanding of the subject in its practical application and the many possibilities in the clinic and look forward to seeing you there!
