Sonographic examination of the fallopian tubes
The least physically stressful way (and without any anaesthetic) to check the patency of the fallopian tubes is by sonography. This examination is called hysterosalpingocontrast sonography (HyCoSy). A small plastic catheter is used to inject fluid (gas/water mixture) into the uterus, which is clearly visible on ultrasound. The drainage of the fluid via the fallopian tubes can then usually be visualised without any problems. If the contrast medium cannot be visualised in the fallopian tubes, the fallopian tubes are probably blocked.
We offer this examination - ideally it should be carried out between the 6th and 12th day of the cycle. The costs of this examination are not covered by health insurance.
