Causes in men
Involuntary childlessness is when a pregnancy has not occurred after about a year without contraception. The reasons for this can lie with both partners.
To test a man's fertility, the sperm quality can be checked. The ejaculate is analysed for this purpose. Sperm quality is assessed based on the number, motility and appearance of the sperm. This male fertility test should be repeated after 6-12 weeks.
Causes of reduced sperm quality can be congenital, but mumps in childhood can also reduce fertility in men. Smoking also has an influence on sperm quality. We therefore recommend a balanced diet, physical activity and quitting smoking. The quality of the sperm is crucial for the onset of pregnancy.
