The entire spectrum of sinus surgery is offered at the ENT Clinic at the University of Ulm. Chronic sinusitis and nasal polyposis with an indication for surgery are treated as standard using functional endoscopic sinus surgery following appropriate CT imaging. In the case of simultaneous aspirin intolerance, an aspirin intolerance test is offered in our intensive care unit following the operation to prevent recurrence.
For extensive benign and malignant tumours of the paranasal sinus system, a variety of open surgical approaches are available in addition to transnasal, endoscopic surgery, which are used depending on the location and extent of the tumour.
The clinic specialises in the surgical treatment of diseases of the anterior skull base, which are approached via a transnasal or combined endoscopic/transcerebral approach in cooperation with our colleagues in neurosurgery. Intraoperative navigation using CAS technology is regularly used here.
In close collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology, our surgical spectrum is being expanded to include exophthalmos treatment. Balanced orbital decompression, which combines the advantages of endonasal and lateral orbital access, is ideal for this purpose. The need for subsequent surgical correction of strabismus is significantly reduced in this case.
