The Clinic for Dental Prosthetics focuses on biomaterial research in clinical studies (a list of these studies and information on possible participation as a test subject can be found at this link). Studies are currently being conducted in Ulm and at other locations on
- High-performance ceramics (survival of different materials and constructions on teeth and implants),
- hybrid ceramics,
- soft tissue management on teeth and implants,
- molecular biological analyses of inflammation markers,
- the impression precision that can be achieved,
- therapy alternatives for deeply damaged teeth,
- combined tooth-implant-supported bridges,
- pre-implantological bone preservation,
- the precision of three-dimensional implant planning,
- total mandibular prostheses stabilised by a single implant
- the use of a sleeveless surgical guide for navigated implant placement and
- reverse-fix technology for the non-destructive removal and reattachment of dental restorations
are carried out.
Eight members of the department are currently trained as clinical investigators.
Four dentists are also qualified for studies in accordance with the German Medical Devices Act (MPG).
Various testing machines and equipment for dynamic thermal alternating loading (chewing simulator, developed in-house by the department and the company Zwick/Roell, Einsingen), a universal testing machine and mechanical and non-contact optical digitisation technology are available for in-vitro examinations. In addition to three-dimensional analyses using CAD software, voxel-based data can also be processed. In current experiments, high-performance ceramic abutments (implant abutment components) and implants, osteosynthesis plates for the lower jaw (titanium, hand-bent or laser-sintered) or the primary stability of implants are tested in preparations.
In teaching research, new teaching and learning materials are designed and implemented using modern computer-aided processes and software development to improve pre-clinical and clinical dental training.
Under this link we report on the results of CAD/CAM research and provide information on CAD/CAM technology.
