Project description

Numerous new measures and legislative changes in the context of child protection are still too little known in the healthcare professions and lead to uncertainties regarding authorisation to act. The aim of this project was to provide effective and sustainable further training for healthcare professionals on the subject of child abuse/maltreatment.

An online course for medical and therapeutic professionals was developed as part of the project. This contains an overview of the current legal situation, changes to the law, the epidemiology and diagnosis of forms of maltreatment and international guidelines.

The course was regularly evaluated as part of the accompanying research in order to improve the learning platform and the learning content. In addition, the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants were assessed.

In total, four test cohorts with a total of 9,370 participants completed the course between 2016 and 2021. Of these, 4,618 participants (49.3%) successfully completed the course. The research accompanying the course shows a high level of satisfaction with the course and its content and a significant increase in knowledge and skills in the area of child protection.

The revised and optimised course is now offered on the platform www.kinderschutz-im-saarland.de for a participation fee of €80 (free of charge for professionals from the Saarland). You can find more information about this project here.
