At the Hans-Lebrecht-Schule, a special education and counselling centre for pupils undergoing long-term hospital treatment at Ulm University Hospital, which opened in 1986, around 340 children and young people of all school types who are undergoing semi-inpatient or inpatient treatment at the university hospitals in Ulm are taught by special school teachers, primary, lower secondary and intermediate school teachers, secondary school teachers and grammar school teachers in the two departments, child and adolescent psychiatry/psychotherapy and bedside teaching, in one school year.

We attach great importance to school diagnostics, individual counselling for pupils and their parents, individual support and subject teaching with the aim of achieving or maintaining the connection to the mainstream class or, if a change in school career is indicated, to the new class.

We see ourselves as school counsellors during a transition. We therefore work intensively with all the people and institutions involved in the children and young people's system during all three phases: the admission phase, the treatment phase and the discharge or aftercare phase.

What we do

We teach and support pupils according to their individual level of development and performance and their current learning opportunities, taking their resources into account.

We adapt learning content, pace and methods to individual needs and illness-related limitations.

Information on

The Hans-Lebrecht-Schule received a new drinking water system back in January 2015. The water system was donated by SWISS BlueMotion AG from Ulm. The drinking water system filters all pollutants from the water. As a result, the water is uncontaminated and healthy.

All pupils and teachers at the Hans-Lebrecht-Schule, who previously only drank bottled mineral water, can now easily consume healthy water from the tap.

Around three years later, in December 2017, the company SBM Water GmbH replaced the drinking water system and installed a new water filter system, which has more functions than the previous drinking water system, free of charge. Pupils and teachers can now take the purified water from the drinking water tap either chilled or unchilled. This system can also produce sparkling water. The water filter system was donated by Hans-Peter Lauble, Managing Director of b-projects GmbH in Ulm.

Headmistress Dorothee Blaumer's statement still rings true for the pupils and teachers at Hans-Lebrecht-Schule: "We drink healthily and now much more!"
