Michelsberg day care centre

Our new image film is here! It gives a great insight into the concept and the daily co-operation in our facilities.

How can I enrol?

Please complete the application form and send it to the daycare centre department, Ms Mödinger, Staudingerstraße 2, 89081 Ulm or by email to bianca.moedinger@uniklinik-ulm.de. You will receive confirmation of receipt and further information as soon as we are able to offer you a place.

Please note that the deadline for the annual allocation of places is the last working day (Mon - Fri) in February. We therefore ask you to send us your application for the period from June 2025 to May 2026 by 28 February 2025 at the latest . All applications received by then will be included in the regular admission procedure.

The submission of the application does not entitle the applicant to a place at the Michelsberg daycare centre.

Places are allocated on the basis of a points system that takes particular account of the working hours of the parents at the clinic, shift work, siblings at the centre and single parents.

You are welcome to visit our Michelsberg day care centre, but please call 0731 500-69145 to make an appointment in advance.

If you have any questions about the waiting list or the allocation of places, please contact Mrs Mödinger on 0731 500-69141.

How much are the fees?

The monthly fee for childcare in the crèche, kindergarten and Michelsberg daycare centre is based on the income of the parent(s) or guardian(s). The decisive factor is the total gross family income earned by the legal guardians from January to December in the calendar year prior to admission to the centre.

The fee is set for the first time on admission to the centre and is recalculated annually. The fee also includes all catering costs.

The following applies for 2021:

Annual gross family income
Daycare centre MB U3 contribution
Contribution daycare centre MB Ü3
up to 40 TEUR (minimum contribution)116,00 €96,00 €

If two children from the parent/guardian's household attend our childcare facilities at the same time, the fee for the second child is reduced by 10%. If three or more children are being cared for at the same time, a 10% reduction is granted for all children.

Further information can be found in the crèche and kindergarten regulations.

For a child, starting daycare is a big event that manifests itself in different emotions for each individual child. Many new arrivals are driven by curiosity and the joy of discovery, while others are more reserved. This is partly due to the character of the children and partly to their previous experience.

If the children have already been in childcare, in a crèche or with a childminder, it is usually easier for them to let go. Here the children have already had the experience of mum or dad coming back. For children who have been looked after exclusively by mum or dad until they settle in, the separation period can take longer.

A secure starting point is an important condition for the transition from the crèche or family to kindergarten. This includes the presence of familiar people.

On the following days, the carers try to build up a relationship with the child. The parents take on more and more of a passive role.

A positive attitude on the part of the parents contributes to a good familiarisation.

The settling-in period is complete when the child has gained confidence and you all feel comfortable in the centre.

The foxes in the foxhole

Everyone has heard well-known phrases such as "as clever as a fox" or the term "crafty". With their fluffy red fur, all foxes look alike.

And yet no two foxes are the same!

This is also the case with us.

That's why we support every child, every parent and every employee individually.

We recognise their uniqueness, support their development positively and strengthen their abilities.

Only if everyone is allowed to be who they are will they gain a stable sense of self-worth. They can learn how to deal with their own strengths and weaknesses and experience a sense of belonging.

Incidentally, thanks to its athletic stature, the fox can jump up to five metres and two metres high!

We also want to give our little foxes plenty of room to "jump".

That's why we are out and about a lot. We explore the neighbourhood, take trips to playgrounds or to the fort, go into the forest, to the stream and to large meadows.

But our garden also has a lot to offer.

Children love the outdoors: they can jump through puddles, run through piles of leaves or let mud slosh through their fingers. It doesn't matter to them what the weather is like. As long as they are well dressed and feel warm and cosy, the little ones become real outdoor foxes.

Strength, stamina and a sense of direction are encouraged.

Unlike humans, foxes usually rest during the day. To sleep, the fox retreats to the shelter of its den.

Although the fox den on the Michelsberg is not open at night, it offers a place of safe encounters, security and protection during the day.

Here, everyone experiences freedom and how to deal with their own boundaries and those of others.

Little foxes are incredibly curious.

From the very beginning, children also want to find out what is happening in their environment. They try to understand what is happening around them and what this has to do with themselves. From the age of just a few months, babies explore their bodies, observe their surroundings attentively and look for the causes of events that "explain" to them where a sound comes from, which voice is speaking, what kind of light source it is. Depending on their developmental age, they react differently and - depending on their age - find "correct" explanations.

When the little foxes grow up, they leave the nursery and play in front of the den or go on exploratory trips with their mother. Later, the family unit slowly breaks up and the young foxes become independent and look for their own territory.

This takes longer for us humans, of course, but the children also want to become independent.

As they grow up, children should gradually develop confidence in their own abilities.

At Fuchsbau, all children have a right to developmental support. The specialised educational staff respond to each child individually. We offer various programmes and respect, value and take care to meet the different needs of each child.

The team focuses on the resources of each child. This means that all children learn with and from each other in the community, play together, try out new things and face challenges.

The Fuchsbau sees the individual differences of the children as an opportunity and enrichment and recognises the social and cultural diversity of the children and families as an educational opportunity for the individual child.

Right from the start!

Preschool begins in the last year of daycare and is an important preparation for school?

Right?

No, not really! At least not here at the Fuchsbau!

Our aim is to take the issues and emotions of the little foxes in the Fuchsbau seriously and to support them in this. That's why the holistic development of the children is particularly important to us. This means that the little foxes are not only encouraged in their motor and cognitive skills, but above all should feel strengthened in their self-esteem and self-confidence when they start school. They should also have confidence and trust in themselves, know social rules and be able to engage with new events in a curious and solution-orientated way.

As already mentioned, this educational process cannot be completed in one year alone. The "preparation" for school is our legal mandate and begins from the child's first day at the Fuchsbau. We want to support the children according to the goals described above in everyday life. To this end, we organise special activities and tasks which, depending on age, are reserved for the older children or the younger ones.

It is similar in nature. The "preparation" for leaving the pack begins on the very first day.

As a rule, young foxes only leave the pack when they are independent enough to do so. This means that before they leave the pack, they are carefully checked again to see whether they are really good at searching for and catching prey and whether the little fox is already big and fast enough to get itself to safety.

Before the last year of nursery school, the basic examination is carried out by the public health department. This is an examination that is anchored in the Education Act and is carried out for all children in the penultimate year of kindergarten in order to recognise any need for support at an early stage. It is important to note that this examination is not a school readiness test. It has no influence on school enrolment and is purely for prevention and health promotion purposes. Parents whose children are examined in the respective year will receive the necessary documents from the kindergarten in good time.

Together!

The Fuchsbau is a place of togetherness. We spend a lot of time together and this should be characterised by wonderful experiences. That is why good co-operation with our colleagues, the caretakers, the kitchen, the cleaning staff and many more, but especially with the parents, is very important to us.

We use the term "parent work" to describe a joint learning process. For a while, we accompany each other on the children's individual development path. Good co-operation requires mutual trust and honesty. Being accommodating ensures well-being and appreciation of each other's needs.

The foxhole is a place that invites children to laugh, romp and play. A place of safe encounters, security and protection.
