Our department offers the opportunity to gain an exciting and comprehensive insight into the major areas of anaesthesia (anaesthetic management, intensive care medicine, emergency medicine, cardioanaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia & pain therapy). Regardless of which speciality you want to learn later - the practical skills in airway and circulatory management that you can learn with us will always be helpful and useful in your chosen profession.

Areas of work
We give you an insight into the many different areas of anaesthesia.

Operating theatre: From minor outpatient procedures in the AOZ to major surgical interventions - anaesthesia is represented in the operating theatres of all surgical departments. You have the opportunity to get to know the various anaesthesiological specialities of the individual disciplines.

Intensive care unit: As part of the medical team, you will, among other things, care for critically ill patients together with a medical colleague and have the opportunity to take part in regular teaching rounds and further training in intensive care medicine.

Emergency medicine: Our department provides emergency medical care for the city of Ulm in the day programme at three locations. You have the opportunity to accompany the emergency medical colleagues on a daily basis and gain an exciting insight into preclinical patient care.

Pain medicine/cardioanaesthesia/paediatric anaesthesia: On request, a day-long rotation in these highly specialised areas of anaesthesia is also possible after consultation.

Allocation of PJ places
PJ places are allocated centrally by the Student Secretariat at Ulm University. Students from other German universities also have the opportunity to complete part of their practical year with us as part of the PJ mobility programme. Please send your application to the University of Ulm
