Living and working in Ulm - the University Hospital supports you
The time has come: you are starting your professional future together with the University Hospital! To make your start as easy as possible, we offer you flats to rent in the staff residence of our hospital during the transition phase, which is not always easy. This allows you to explore the local housing market at your leisure - without time pressure and stress - and you don't have to make any hasty compromises that you'll be annoyed about later.
The staff residence - your first step on the way to your dream apartment
The staff residence is located in a quiet residential area in Tokajerweg in Ulm. From here, the clinics, institutes and other facilities on the Oberer Eselsberg can be reached on foot or by bike in a short time.
There are 222 one-bedroom flats and 13 two-bedroom flats spread over a total of five houses. Washing machines and tumble dryers are available for a small monthly flat rate of €5.34 plus rent. Each flat also has a small cellar room. You can also easily store your bike, as there is a shared bicycle storage room in each building.
The staff residence is only intended as a temporary solution for new employees who have to give up their flat due to a change of job. The staff residence also provides accommodation for trainees.
Please note: As an employee of Ulm University Hospital, you are not automatically entitled to a flat in the staff residence - places are allocated according to availability.
Only hospital employees and not their relatives are permitted to live in the staff residence.
The flats are fully furnished and equipped with a telephone and internet connection
Each flat is fully furnished and has a bathroom and kitchenette. Please note that the furniture may not be removed from the flats. Please bring your own bed linen, kitchen utensils, towels, TV and other items.
The rental price depends on the size of the flat. On average, the monthly rent including utilities is between 430 and 830 euros per month. Trainees have to factor in an average rent (including ancillary costs) of between 350 and 590 euros per month. The rents including ancillary costs of the few 2-room flats are on average between approx. 780 and 1,250 euros per month. Trainees pay a lower monthly rent of approx. 690 to approx. 900 euros for their 2-room flat. The rent already includes ancillary costs for water, electricity, heating, rubbish and sewage charges. The flats have connections for telephone and internet - please note that the tenant is responsible for concluding the relevant contracts.
A licence fee must be paid for each flat. If you do not yet have a contribution account, please register with the contribution service at www.rundfunkbeitrag.de.

Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm GmbH is responsible for public transport in the city and offers the so-called professional or job ticket. This is a season ticket for the use of public transport in Ulm and the surrounding area.
The advantage for you: employees of the University Hospital and the state receive discounted conditions when purchasing the professional/job ticket. The Staff Council is responsible for this issue and will be happy to help you. You can find more information here.
By the way: Since December 2018, tram line 2 has been running from Kuhberg right across Ulm to Oberer Eselsberg and stops at Ulm University Hospital. This makes our hospital even easier to reach for employees, patients and visitors!
Badminton, Pilates, kung fu, lacrosse, swimming, yoga... This is just a small selection of the sports activities offered by the University of Ulm's university sports programme. Our cooperation with the university means that employees of the University Hospital can take part in university sports at staff rates. Find out more about the offers and conditions here.
The "Culture of Mindfulness" programme was launched in 2011 and is based on 3 building blocks:
- Counselling services for all employees
- Workplace health promotion
- Maintaining health
In addition to cooperations and offers with external providers, such as the Auszeithaus Reute-Bad Waldsee, there are health promotion programmes (e.g. Zen meditation), internal conflict counselling, help in overcoming acute crises and other offers.
The counselling centres and participants in the programme are the Staff Council, the Equal Opportunities Officer, the Representative Body for Severely Disabled Employees, the Company Medical Service and the Addiction Prevention Working Group.
Further information can be found at the aforementioned counselling centres and on the intranet.
Only the best for our patients
The German Basic Law is clear: according to Article 33 (2) of the Basic Law, appointments in the public sector are subject to the principle of selecting the best. A strategy that Ulm University Hospital also follows as a matter of course: We want you, the best! Gone are the days when the civil service was associated with paragraph-writing in stuffy offices.
Public service is not just public service
The University Hospital is a progressive public service employer in a very dynamic environment. The success of Ulm University Hospital is largely due to the independent and responsible working methods of its employees. This is precisely why we are a particularly attractive employer, because the "classic benefits" of public service come as a bonus.
Advantages of public service
With us, you can be sure that you are taking on an important social responsibility: Because the topic of health concerns us all! The collective agreement for university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg (TV UK), for example, guarantees you good working conditions and better pay than in many other hospitals. In addition, holiday entitlements, company pension schemes and, in some cases, special annual payments are anchored in the collective agreements that apply to your professional group - take a look at them.
