The human body has no active means of excreting iron. Excessive iron intake (e.g. regular transfusion therapy, increased iron absorption) can therefore lead to iron storage disease, which can result in disorders and damage to the organs.
As one of currently 13 centres in Germany, we carry out non-invasive measurements of the liver iron content using MRI. It is therefore no longer necessary to take a sample from the liver.
The measurements take place in our MRI scanner (1.5T) and the examination usually takes around 20 minutes. It is not necessary to administer medication or contrast agents.
The data we collect is sent to FerriScan® after the examination and analysed there.
FerriScan® is an internationally recognised analysis service from Resonance Health®. For more information, please contact us or visit the provider's website.
