Clinical risk management
Patient safety is the primary goal of medical practice. The Hippocratic Oath is an expression of this attitude. Despite the careful work of the individual, errors can occur in the provision of care. The aim of risk management at Ulm University Hospital is to detect errors in patient care, to identify the causes of adverse events and, above all, to implement preventive and corrective measures for identified errors. An important tool is complaint management, which ensures that errors can be easily reported and rectified from the patient's perspective. Routine quality measurements ensure that care is provided in accordance with professional guidelines and in the intended quality. Our employees have the opportunity to report critical incidents and errors anonymously - similar to pilots.
We attach great importance to communication, openness and transparency.

CIRS
Ulm University Hospital has been participating in the cross-institutional error reporting system ClRSmedical.de since 2018 and has joined this network on a voluntary basis across all institutions in order to contribute to increasing patient safety.
The cross-institutional exchange of safety-relevant events via the German medical profession's reporting and learning system for critical events in medicine enables every participating institution to benefit from the reports of other participants.
Patient Safety Action Alliance
Avoiding mixed-up procedures, preventing falls, preventing infections - patient safety has many facets. In order to take an even more preventative approach and ensure safe medical treatment for all patients, Ulm University Hospital joined Aktionsbündnis Patientensicherheit e.V. (APS) at the end of March 2018.
