As part of the dental medicine degree programme, students also complete courses in orthodontics during the clinical part of their studies: the orthodontic technique course and the orthodontic treatment courses I and II.

The aim of these courses is to teach future dentists the basics of our subject. In addition, the aim is to provide dentists with the basic orthodontic knowledge required to recognise tooth and jaw misalignments in good time. This is because patients are usually referred by their family dentist to an appropriate practice or clinic for orthodontic treatment.

We in Ulm attach particular importance to practical training for our students. In both orthodontic treatment courses, students are given the opportunity to examine real patients in small groups, plan their treatment and try on the specially manufactured removable braces on these patients.
