Cleft lips and palates are very common malformations in newborns. There are no waiting times for children and adults with these congenital deformities and surgery appointments are not postponed. The necessary operations are not just about the aesthetic restoration of the patient's face. Surgeons must also ensure that the patient is able to chew and swallow. It is equally important that the ability to speak is not impaired.
The department focuses on the management of the interdisciplinary cleft centre at Ulm University Hospital, involving the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology, Dentistry, Paediatrics, Phoniatrics and Anaesthesiology.
