What is meant by Antibiotic-stewardship = ABS?
The uncritical use of antibiotics leads to the spread of resistance. As a result, infectious diseases are more difficult to treat, and in some cases no longer treatable at all.
An interdisciplinary team develops strategies to ensure the rational use of antibiotics. The aims of the ABS are
-Improvement of antimicrobial therapy (duration, type of application, choice of substance)
-Avoidance of complications caused by antibiotic therapies (e.g. antibiotic-associated colitis).
-Reducingthe development of antibiotic resistance and thus maintaining efficient antibiotic therapies in the future
Tasks at the UKU:
-Drafting of the in-house anti-infectives guideline
-Carrying out ABS visits
-Individual counselling in the context of ABS consils
-Participation in the interdisciplinary infection board
-Conducting training courses on the implementation of the guidelines
-Participation in interdisciplinary teaching events
-analysing the resistance statistics
-analysing antibiotic consumption data
