Further information

Have you been diagnosed with a tumour in the genital area or are you suspected of having one? As experts in this field, we would like to help you. You are not alone. Make an appointment for an initial consultation with us.

The individual consultation includes, among other things

  • What kind of illness do I have?
  • What are the next steps?
  • Is an operation necessary and if so, how will it be carried out?
We will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan.
  • Can I still have children? (Counselling for women who wish to have children)
  • Offer of accompanying psycho-oncological counselling

During the initial consultation, we take plenty of time to explain the disease and answer all your questions. To get a comprehensive picture, we need all the findings that have already been obtained externally (please bring these with you to the appointment). In addition to a detailed discussion, we will carry out a gynaecological examination including ultrasound. In certain situations, further examinations may be necessary (e.g. computer tomography). You are welcome to bring your partner or a relative with you to this initial consultation for support.

Once all the necessary examinations have been carried out, we will discuss the "case" together with other specialist colleagues in our interdisciplinary tumour conference and recommend the best treatment for you based on the latest research. We will also check whether participation in a trial is an option for you. This allows you to participate directly in progress and benefit from an innovative and new therapy.

Further information

Depending on the therapy concept, you will receive chemotherapies, antibody therapies, anti-hormone therapies, immunotherapeutics and also drugs that intervene in bone metabolism at our IOT. Together with the team at the study centre, we also offer you the opportunity to receive new innovative therapies as part of clinical studies. You will be looked after by our experienced team in the chemotherapy outpatient clinic. The doctors and nurses looking after you are specially trained in tumour therapy and will accompany you through this difficult time.

Our aim is to master the therapy together with you. It is important to us to avoid or at least alleviate side effects in order to make the therapy as pleasant as possible for you. We can also offer you psycho-oncological care or support from the social counselling service on site at the IOT if required. The IOT also offers the option of nutritional counselling by a specially trained nutritionist. Cosmetic seminars and yoga courses are further offers of our oncological day clinic.

Of course, we are also available around the clock in the time between therapies if you have any questions or problems. Even when the IOT is closed, you can contact the gynaecological clinic's emergency outpatient department at night or at weekends. You will receive help there quickly.

We are aware of the anxiety and stress that a tumour and its treatment can cause you and your family. That is why, in addition to high-quality treatment, it is important to us to provide you with a safe, protective environment and, above all, that you feel that you are in good hands with us.

Further information

In our private consultation, gynaecological diseases are treated by the Director of the Women's Clinic, Prof. Dr Wolfgang Janni, or his deputies. The consultation focuses in particular on surgical and medical treatment of benign and malignant gynaecological diseases. It is important to us to advise you individually, competently and in a pleasant atmosphere. You are also welcome to come to the private consultation for a second opinion.

Prof. Dr Wolfgang Janni is a nationally and internationally recognised expert in the field of gynaecology, with a particular focus on senology (diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases) and gynaecological oncology. As a board member of the Association of Gynaecological Oncology (AGO), spokesman for the Breast Organ Commission and head of international study groups, he has a high level of expertise, particularly with regard to new, innovative treatment strategies.

When you visit the private consultation, you can expect a detailed discussion about the reason for your visit, your medical history and a clinical examination, usually including an ultrasound scan. Depending on the underlying disease, further modern examination methods will complete the diagnostic measures if necessary.

In the case of malignant diseases, your case will be presented at one of our interdisciplinary tumour conferences and discussed by experts from various specialist disciplines in order to determine the best treatment for you based on the latest research. We take plenty of time to discuss the treatment recommendation and the next steps with you in detail at a follow-up appointment.
