Project description

Background

The prevalence of maltreatment and traumatisation among children and adolescents in Germany is high, but it is often difficult for professionals to provide adequate support to those affected in practice, partly due to gaps in knowledge or uncertainty in dealing with those affected. There is therefore a great need for further training on topics such as child protection and traumatisation. The "Child Protection in Saarland" project aims to meet this need by offering a platform with online training courses on the topics mentioned. The project is funded by the Saarland Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Women and Health. All interested professionals throughout Germany can take part in the online courses for a participation fee; participation in the online courses is free of charge for Saarland professionals.

Platform and online courses

The platform provides seven online courses on topics such as sexualised violence, child abuse, neglect, trauma therapy and education, creating risk assessments and protection concepts, leadership skills in child protection and family court proceedings in child protection cases. The courses, which have already been tested and evaluated, contain both theoretical materials such as learning texts or film clips with expert interviews, as well as application-oriented material such as case studies or reflection tasks. Professionals from the various areas can register for one or more courses and

complete these after successful completion with a certificate including training points. In addition to providing the online training courses, the project also includes a website with up-to-date information on child protection topics, event tips, literature recommendations and an overview of the child protection landscape in Saarland and the greater region.

In order to take part in the online courses, it is necessary to register on the website www.kinderschutz-im-saarland.de. The desired course can then be booked and processed.
