Sexualised harassment is also widespread in the healthcare system. The often unequal power and dependency relationships favour the development of sexualised border violations. Women are particularly affected. In 2020, the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) decided that protection concepts are mandatory in medical facilities as part of quality management. The implementation of a protection concept must be based on a risk analysis.

Employee survey on sexualised harassment at university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg

The planned survey aims to investigate the prevalence of sexualised harassment and boundary violations among staff and patients at university hospitals in Baden-Württemberg. Participation in the survey will take approximately 15 minutes and the questionnaire is based on the concept of the survey at Charité Berlin to ensure national comparability. In addition, the survey will ask about witnessing sexualised harassment of patients by colleagues. In addition to recording the general prevalence of sexualised harassment, the aim of the planned survey is also to identify particularly vulnerable groups as well as structures and settings that facilitate sexualised harassment. The results of the survey are to form a central component of the risk analysis as part of the development of the protection concept. In the long term, the aim is to sensitise employees to the issue of sexualised harassment and promote an atmosphere of respectful interaction in which discrimination is not tolerated, as stipulated by law in the AGG.

The survey is anonymised. An evaluation at participant level is not possible. The aim of the survey is not to initiate disciplinary action or similar.

The survey is being conducted by Prof. Clemens, head of the working group "Prevalence of sexualised harassment in the healthcare sector" and Prof. Fegert, head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Ulm University Hospital. The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy has been significantly involved in the promotion, development and implementation of protection concepts in institutions from the very beginning. The survey was conducted in cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Officers.
