Project description
Targeted violence, aggressive and self-harming behaviour by students pose a potential threat to employees and students at universities and colleges. The aim of the project was to train counsellors at universities in how to recognise and deal with potential dangers among students and how to deal with threatening situations involving students. The project aimed to make university staff more aware of relevant mental health issues and teach them how to deal with confidentiality and the legal framework in connection with threats, as well as how to recognise students' need for help at an early stage and initiate possible preventative measures.
A multi-stage process was chosen to realise the project objectives. Firstly, 40 selected representatives from 37 colleges, student services organisations and universities in Baden-Württemberg were trained as multipliers on the topic. The project team then developed materials on the topic and adapted them to practical conditions with the multipliers. The multipliers then used these materials to train employees in their organisations. The project showed good results in terms of the learning effect and the competence of both the trained multipliers and the employees in the respective organisations.
