AG Becker - Innate Immunity and Risk Factor Analytics
Nils started his involvement in trauma research in 2016. In his MD thesis at the Clinic for Trauma Surgery at the Goethe-University Frankfurt he focused on humoral and cellular mediators of inflammation in multiple-trauma and sepsis in in vivo and patient studies. After graduating in 2019, he started his surgical residency at the Department of Trauma Surgery at the University Clinic RWTH Aachen and continued his experimental and clinical research on trauma-associated risk factors for clinical complications. In December 2023 he joined our lab as clinical scientist in the SFB 1149. His main motivation is to identify clinical risk factors and cellular mediators promoting the development of serious immune-derived complications in surgical patients. He focusses on the innate immune response to trauma and the effect of cell-derived mediators on organ-crosstalk, bone-healing and remote organ damage. Furthermore, he concentrates on the identification of important clinical risk populations. His goal is a translational implementation in patient-orientated treatment algorithms.
